The gloves are coming off as Lebanon puts the West on notice concerning its support for Israel’s ongoing attacks in the Middle East.
Rami Mortada, Lebanon’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, told The Times (UK) in a September 20 interview that the UK-trained Lebanese army will not “stand idly” by and watch as Israel launches a ground invasion or “heavy aerial attack” on Lebanon.
If Israel proceeds with attacking Lebanon in this manner, it will unleash a “doomsday” scenario for not only the West but also Asia and Europe, which support the Western axis of power against Israel’s enemies in the Middle East.
Israel says it is trying to create a buffer zone in southern Lebanon, which borders northern Israel, to keep Hezbollah further away behind the Litani River. Since Oct. 8, 2023, the day after the Hamas attack, Hezbollah has been pounding sites near Israel’s northern border with missiles and drones, forcing Israelis in the northern settlements to evacuate their homes.
Until Israel stops killing the people of Gaza, Hezbollah says it will continue to attack northern Israel, even though the melee is causing Lebanese civilians to have to evacuate the area as well.

Mortada made these statements not long after Israel carried out the exploding pagers attack followed by the exploding radios attack. These two attacks killed 37 people and injured more than 3,000 others.
The region, Mortada told The Times, is now on a “perilous path” as Iran and other members of the Axis of Resistance, including Yemen, Iraq and Syria, are all on the verge of joining the conflict.
“We are facing all the risks of an all-out regional conflict and that’s what we have been tirelessly trying to avoid,” Mortada said.
Hezbollah, Mortada continued, has become a “formidable fighting force” in recent years. Israel should learn from its many past “humiliating” defeats, Mortada says, including its losses during the war with Hezbollah in 2006.
“Let’s hope that we don’t get there because this is a doomsday scenario for everyone,” Mortada added.
“It’s definitely a doomsday for Lebanon, but Lebanon will not hurt alone in this war. That’s what recent history has taught us. So all efforts should be focused on avoiding such an outcome.”
In a video speech to his supporters, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said that Israel’s most recent attacks with the exploding pagers and radios “could be called a declaration of war.”
“Yes, we were subjected to a huge and severe blow,” Nasrallah said. “The enemy crossed all boundaries and red lines.”
Nasrallah added that a “reckoning” is coming, though he would not reveal how or when that reckoning will take place.
“I won’t talk about place, time, location, details,” he said. “You will find out when it happens. The reckoning will happen.”
“There are many dangerous aspects for the Middle East that could get as far as Europe and beyond.”
In the comments, someone expressed outrage that instability has been a hallmark of the Middle East for many years, and yet “uncontrolled immigration into Europe has been allowed from these areas.”
“The West could have stopped it years ago, but it’s too late now that they have changed the demographics in Europe forever,” this person added.
“The west will be dragged into any conflict in the Middle East which would be on a much larger scale than we have seen before,” wrote another. “Russia would then have their chance to take Ukraine completely. China would then have the ticket for Taiwan, not to mention the sympathetic factions that no doubt exist within the UK and Europe to Hezbollah. We have a big problem.”
